Here is an excerpt from the introduction:

I share these stories and experiences to offer encouragement. Sometimes terrible things happen to us. Sometimes we make terrible mistakes. Life shatters and all our believed and beloved certainties are stripped away. This book is for all of us whose lives have blown up, who have been sent hurtling off in directions we would never have chosen and who, facing the unthinkable, the catastrophic, are determined to thrive on the other side.

We are living in a time of extraordinary and rapid change in our world and often in our personal lives. Many of us are facing the reinvention of careers, relationships, identities and selves at a time we never thought we’d need to.   Asked for or not, believe it or not, this presents a huge opportunity because growth, success and progress don’t happen without change. The key is learning how to find peace and power in the midst of change so that we can heal, make purpose of the pain and direct the change toward making a better life.

The field of uncertainty, though challenging, is a place of immense power. Getting rattled and displaced gives us a chance to build a stronger foundation for launching anew. Being whittled down makes space for our True Selves to emerge. Our shaken moments can open beautiful portals into an awesome adventure of self-revelation, reinvention and love. Surviving, thriving and designing the life we want isn’t about becoming more or better, it’s about remembering who we really are to begin with. In the seeming destruction lies the golden opportunity not to break down, but to break through and break open.

We might not have asked for what’s happening and it might not be our fault, but no matter what, it is our responsibility. The circumstances may be out of our control; how we handle them is not. I don’t know if everything happens for a purpose, but I do know we can find purpose in everything that happens and choosing to grow through the ordeal rather than just go through it is one of our most empowered decisions.

You are more than a job, a title, a financial status, a criminal background, a role. You are more than a body. You are more than you know. You have a choice to make. You can choose to let the death of the old you give birth to the True You. Every single moment holds the opportunity of rebirth, no matter what is swirling in the outer circumstances of your life just now. It’s not the crucifixion that matters; it’s the resurrection. Your Easter is here — if you choose it.
